2021.05.25 Established Victims group of Illegal Real Estate loans by Suruga Bank.
~ The large-scale Defense Counsel was Formed~
We hereby announce the establishment of the Victims Alliance of Suruga Bank’s Illegal Loans (hereinafter, SI Victims Alliance) on Tuesday, May 25th. The Alliance is organized by the victims who received fraudulent loans from Suruga Bank Ltd. (hereinafter, Suruga Bank) for investment of real estate properties, such as entire buildings and/or condominium units.
The SI Victims Alliance is a non-profit organization by the victims of Suruga loans who have fallen into the difficulty to repay the loans due to receiving a much larger amount of loans compared to the actual value of the property. Since ~2014, these victims have been approached by Suruga Bank and real estate agents, under the name of property investment. The documents submitted by the victims, such as deposit balance, withholding slips, rent rolls, and sales contracts, have been found to be falsified. (* 1)
According to the statistics within the SI Victims Alliance, “In most of these loan cases (more than 95%), the screening documents have been falsified” and that “the notifications from Suruga Bank have incorrect discussion points and understanding gaps”.
On another note, a very powerful defense counsel, “The Defense Counsel for Victims of Suruga Bank’s Illegal Loans” (‘SI Defense Counsel for Victims.’) has been formed, headed by Lawyer Hiroyuki Kawai of Sakura-Kyodo Law Office and Lawyer Hiroshi Yamaguchi of Tokyo-Kyodo Law Office.
From now on, the SI Victims Alliance will work together with the SI Victims Defense Counsel to seek relief for the victims from Suruga Bank. As part of its activities, the SI Victims Alliance has submitted a written application to Suruga Bank on the same day, to inform that it will be forced to suspend the loan repayment of about 80 members until this problem is resolved.
